Call for contributions for the XV International Conference on Engineering, Social Justice and Peace – Colombia 2020

Those interested are invited to send in their proposals for contributions for the XV International Conference on Engineering, Social Justice and Peace to be held from 11 to 13 June 2020 in Bogota.

The main lines of the event are: transformative education, purposeful actions and emancipatory reflections. Some of these events will take place prior to and during the conference: collective workshops, spaces for lectures, art and poster exhibitions.

Deadline for submission of abstracts and workshop proposals: February 15, 2020

Memories for the Future? Call for Papers for a conference to be held at the GCSC, Justus Liebig University Giessen

Memories for the Future? Narrating Horizons of Hope in “Politics out of History”* is the Call for Papers of the International Graduate Center for the Study of Culture (GCSC) at the Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany, for a conference to be held on 25.-26. March 2020.

Contributions from early-career researchers as well as established scholars, innovative papers on theoretical considerations as well as case study-based research are welcome. The GCSC also encourages less conventional approaches to the topic, such as performances, artwork or more poetic techniques of expression. The publication of an edited volume or a special issue that contains some of the presented works is envisioned as well.

Topics this conference would like to address in their regards to narratives of the future include (but are not limited to):

*         Memory and the “Postcolony”

*         Memory practices and their Futures

*         Memory in times of transition (TRCs etc.)

*         Theoretical approaches to decolonize memory (e.g. epistemic disobedience)

*         Memory and government

*         Memory of Enlightenment/Enlightenment and memory

*         Forgetting and Remembering for the Future

*         Alternative Memories, Memory Activism

*         Artistic approaches to memory

*         Objects of memory (e.g. in collections/museums)

Call for Proposals Platform for Dialogue: Memory and Inequality

The Centro Maria Sibylla Merian de Estudios Latinoamericanos Avanzados (CALAS) has opened a call for proposals for those interested to participate as speakers in the Platform for Dialogue: Memory and Inequality. The initiative is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Stefan Peters, CAPAZ Academic Director and Angela Schrott, professor and researcher at the University of Kassel and member of the CALAS Steering Committee.

The event will take place at the CALAS headquarters in Guadalajara, Mexico from June 9-11, 2020.

It will analyse the relationship between historical memory and social inequalities through 4 thematic axes: Theoretical and conceptual perspectives on memory and social inequalities; Memory and intersectionality; Memory and elites; and Memory and identity(s).

Participant selection: CALAS welcomes proposals for academic, individual or collective presentations.

Sigue abierta convocatoria para participar en Congreso de Jóvenes Investigadores CAPAZ 2019

Hasta el 10 de octubre de 2019 estará abierta la convocatoria del Instituto Colombo-Alemán para la Paz – CAPAZ y la Universidad de Antioquia para enviar propuestas para participar en el Segundo Congreso de Jóvenes Investigadores CAPAZ.

El congreso tendrá lugar los días 6 y 7 de noviembre de 2019 en la Ciudad Universitaria en Medellín, Colombia.

La convocatoria está dirigida a estudiantes colombianas(os) inscritas(os) en programas de maestría o doctorado de universidades socios del CAPAZ y cuyos proyectos de tesis están suficientemente avanzados. Los trabajos deben referirse a un tema relevante para el proceso de paz en Colombia y estar enfocados en alguno de los siguientes ejes temáticos:

  • Justicia Transicional y Derechos Humanos
  • Construcción de Paz (Memoria o Educación)
  • Paz, conflictos y reconfiguraciones territoriales


Selección de participantes

El Instituto CAPAZ seleccionará a los(as) participantes del Segundo Congreso de Jóvenes Investigadores. Las personas seleccionadas tendrán la posibilidad de presentar su trabajo en el congreso y recibirán comentarios de profesores(as) colombianos(as) e internacionales expertos(as) en los ejes temáticos. Los(as) participantes seleccionados(as) deberán enviar a más tardar el 30 de octubre de 2019 su propuesta de investigación (exposé) y/o avances de tesis doctoral.

Los gastos de viaje y estadía para las personas seleccionadas cuyo lugar de residencia en Colombia es diferente a la ciudad en la que tendrá lugar el Congreso serán cubiertos por los organizadores del evento.

Open enrolment for Master’s degree in Social Justice and Peacebuilding at Universidad de Caldas


CAPAZ associate member, Universidad de Caldas has opened inscriptions for the IV cohort of the Master’s degree in Social Justice and Peacebuilding, 2020-I. Classes will begin February 2, 2020.

The academic programme is hosted by the University’ s School of Legal and Social Sciences.

Closing date for inscription: Tuesday, 5 November 2019.

Call for Second CAPAZ Congress for young researchers 2019

The German-Colombian Peace Institute – CAPAZ and Universidad de Antioquia (U. de A.) are calling for proposals to participate in the Second CAPAZ Congress for Young Researchers, which will take place on November 6 and 7, 2019 in Medellín, Colombia.

The call is addressed to Colombian students enrolled in master’s or doctoral programmes in CAPAZ partner universities and whose thesis projects are sufficiently advanced. The works must refer to a topic relevant to the peace process in Colombia and be focused on one of the following thematic axes:

  • Transitional Justice and Human Rights
  • Peacebuilding (Memory or Education)
  • Peace, conflicts and territorial reconfigurations


Selection of participants

CAPAZ will select the participants of the Second Congress for Young Researchers. Those selected will have the opportunity to present their work at the congress and will receive comments from Colombian and international professors and experts in the thematic axes. Selected participants must submit their research proposal (exposé) and/or doctoral thesis advances no later than October 30, 2019.

Travel and accommodation expenses for selected persons whose place of residence in Colombia is different from the city in which the Congress will take place will be covered by the organisers of the event.

Candidates must make sure that the read the terms and conditions carefully (in Spanish).

Call for applications for two research projects with the CEV

The German-Colombian Peace Institute (CAPAZ), the Centre for the Study of Latin American Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure (CEDPAL) at the University of Göttingen, and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (AA) have signed an agreement to implement the project: “Stabilisation of peace in Colombia through justice and truth”, whose overall objective is to strengthen Colombia’s Comprehensive System of Truth, Justice, Reparation and Non-Repetition from within academia.

For this reason, we would like to invite interested parties to send in their applications for two research projects within the framework of the above-mentioned project:

Number of researchers to be selected: 2.

Place of research: Each researcher will work mainly in Bogotá, but will also travel to the areas involved in the studies.

Duration of each study: 10 months.

Research fees: 15.000 € (less tax). 50% of the value would be paid upon delivery and approval of the work plan, and 50% upon delivery and approval of the final document. CAPAZ will cover transportation costs to the areas of study.

Invitation to participate in the thematic axis of the XXIII Colombian Congress on Geography 2019

The Geography Programme at Universidad Externado de Colombia invites those interested to send in their proposals for papers to participate in one of the thematic axes of the XXIII Colombian Congress on Geography: “A geography for peace building”, which will take place from October 22 to 25, 2019 in Bogotá, Colombia.

Proposals may be sent in to the working groups for the thematic axis on political and historical geographies of armed conflict and peace, specifically in relation to the following lines: a) Conflicts over land and territory, b) History of conflict and peace in the regions, c) Territorial dynamics of the implementation of peace agreements, and d) Communities and territories of peace, development and peace with a territorial approach.

With funding from the German Federal Foreign Office (AA), the German-Colombian Peace Institute – CAPAZ, and the Centre for Studies of Latin American Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure (CEDPAL) belonging to the University of Göttingen will implement the project: “Stabilization of Peace in Colombia through Justice and Truth”.

Based within academia, the general objective for the project is to strengthen the Colombian Integrated System of Truth, Justice, Reparation and Non-Repetition.

El Instituto CAPAZ invita a las personas interesadas a inscribirse al Congreso Internacional “Gobernanza de la Ciencia y la Innovación. Hacia el Desarrollo Inclusivo”, organizado por la Red de Gobernanza y Gestión del Conocimiento, la Ciencia, la Tecnología y la Innovación (Red GCTI), el cual tendrá lugar los días 31 de julio, 1 y 2 de agosto de 2019 en Bogotá, Colombia.
