CAPAZ takes part in the academic sessions of Colombia Day 2021
CAPAZ Academic Director and professor of peace studies at Justus Liebig University Giessen, Prof. Dr. Stefan Peterswill be one of the speakers at the Colombia Day academic conferences, which this year focus on peace and reconciliation with an emphasis on comparative gender studies.
The conference will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 and streamed live on Zoom (link and identification of the meeting in the briefing piece).
El Prof. Dr. Peters will speak in the afternoon to present the importance of gender studies in CAPAZ’ peacebuilding work.
The Final Agreement signed in 2016 by the then Colombian government and the demobilised FARC-EP guerrilla presented three fundamental principles: gender, ethnicity, and territoriality. The implementation of these three axes in the mandate of the three components of the Comprehensive System created as a result of the Final Agreement—JEP, Truth Commission, and the Unit for the Search for the Disappeared—has raised difficulties, for example, in the stigmatisation, resignification and recognition of political actors. Added to this is the difficulty of data collection, violence and opposition to the agreements reached. The differential and intersectional perspective is relevant in understanding this context.
