Never again? A discussion on the advances and challenges of forced disappearance in Colombia

23. August 2021//11:00 - 12:30 BMT

In the framework of the recent social protests in Colombia, more than 300 people were denounced as missing. The massive demonstrations that had begun with a National Strike in reaction against a tax reform by the government of Iván Duque, became the epicenter of other social demands and as a reaction to the unfulfilled promises of the Peace Agreement. The State violently repressed the protests, reacting to those who protest as if they were an “internal enemy”, a position that has historically been implemented to persecute the opposition, social leaders and human rights defenders.
