INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF CAPAZ AND UIS IN BUCARAMANGA
The city of Bucaramanga will host the international Conference “Memory, reconciliation and peacebuilding in the territories: Santander in dialogue with Colombia”.
The event is organized by the CAPAZ Institute, the University Universidad Industrial de Santander-UIS (Vicerrectoría Académica, Escuela de Derecho y Ciencias Políticas, Archivo Oral de Memoria de las Víctimas – AMOVI), with the support of Foundation Heinrich Böll Colombia.
On November 6 and 7, 2018, at the central campus and at the Bucarica headquarters of the UIS, interested people, students and researchers will discuss issues related to peacebuilding from the perspective of memory and reconciliation in the Colombian regions. Admission is free of charge.
Historical memories of political activism and indigenous communities
The panels will review some historical cases such as the political genocide of the party Partido Revolucionario de los Trabajadores (PRT) in the Caribbean region and the party Unión Patriótica. There will be also an approach on experiences inside and outside Colombia, from the perspective of the indigenous communities and from the German perspective.
Truth Commission and the JEP
The Conference will also focus on the work and challenges of the Truth Commission (Comisión para el Esclarecimiento de la Verdad, la Convivencia y la No-Repetición) and the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (Jurisdicción Especial para la Paz- JEP). It will emphasize on the work of these institutions in the construction and recognition of historical memory, also from a gender perspective.
Extractivism and environmental peace
The extractivism model will also be reviewed in the context of peacebuilding and also critical phenomena such as mining activities, substitution and land dispossession.
Victims and reconciliation
The academic agenda will include the discussion on Human Rights and expose territorial peacebuilding initiatives focused on victims.
