First Buenaventura event for CAPAZ supported project on local archives and peacebuilding

First Buenaventura event for CAPAZ supported project on local archives and peacebuilding

From 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2020, the conference “Memory and Heritage in the Colombian Pacific” will be held at the Cultural Centre of the Banco de la República in Buenaventura, Colombia.

The guest speakers are Mónica Álvarez Aguirre (Red Colombiana de lugares de Memoria) and Delia Caicedo (Fundación Guagua).

This is the first activity within the research project on archive management as a contribution to the construction of memory, one of the projects selected in the CAPAZ call for proposals in 2019, to be developed in the 2019-2020 period.

The event will also see the launch of the Buenaventura archive database, which constitutes the first phase of the project.

Project “Local management of archives for peacebuilding in Buenaventura, Colombia”

The purpose of the project is to contribute to the strengthening of capacities for peace in a context such as Buenaventura, by reinforcing the local processes and practices of archive management by social groups, public institutions and organisational platforms brought together in a local initiative called “Proceso Archivo y Memoria”.

The academic disciplines from which the project has been approached are history, sociology, archival science and peace studies. This project is in line with the CAPAZ Institute’s research on peacebuilding practices.

The project is coordinated by Jefferson Jaramillo, professor at the Department of Sociology at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. The participating institutions are the Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in Germany and the Fundación Espacios de Convivencia y Desarrollo Social (FUNDESCODES), a community-based social organisation in Buenaventura that works from the formation and organisation of collective processes, with ethnic-cultural values, for the defence of human rights and ancestral territory.
