The “Let’s talk about the truth” meeting was a listening exercise about the conflict

It wasn’t a lecture but a dialogue in which, rather than talking about stories that justify the actions of those responsible, the latter tried to respond by talking about their life and their reasons for trying to build peace and reconciliation today”. This is how the El Espectador newspaper described the “Let’s talk about the truth” encounter between Oscar Montealegre, former paramilitary commander; Pastor Alape, former guerrilla commander; Bibiana Quintero, young leader and daughter of a military man involved in serious events during the Colombian armed conflict; and grade 9, 10, and 11 students from the José Max León private school in Bogotá, and Francisco de Paula Santander public school in El Zulia (Norte de Santander).

With the support of the German Embassy in Colombia and the advice received from Universidad Pedagógica and CAPAZ, the students of the institutions conducted preparatory workshops for the meeting. The teaching staff supported them in this process in order to pose questions and promote a dialogue and a listening exercise about the armed conflict, ” with no justification for a conflict that has no justification”.
