Video conference by Juliana González for UR Intercultural

The German-Colombian Peace Institute – CAPAZ is pleased to share the transmission of the virtual talk given by Juliana González Villamizar on 27 March 2020, within the framework of the UR Intercultural permanent research seminar at Universidad del Rosario, entitled: “La promesa y los peligros de transversalizar las interseccionalidad en el proceso de paz en Colombia” (The potential and the dangers of transversalising intersectionality in Colombia’s peace process). Juliana González Villamizar is a Science Collaborator at CAPAZ and a doctoral student at Justus Liebig University Giessen.

From a decolonial feminist approach, Juliana González analysed how the Commission for the Clarification of the Truth in Colombia has proposed to include intersectionality in its methodologies and processes.

According to the hypothesis presented, even if transversalising intersectionality into instruments of truth clarification is promising, there is a certain risk that dynamics of individualization, scarcity and competition between different sectors will limit the political potential of intersectionality. For the CAPAZ Science Collaborator, the Commission faces the challenge of implementing methodologies that decentralise the privilege, while they honour the conceptual and epistemological points of view of historically marginalised people and groups.
