CAPAZ welcomes all those interested to the online series of the I International Seminar on Violence and Conflict in Latin America

 

In collaboration with the CALAS Centre (Merian Centre for Advanced Latin American Studies), the Institute for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Universidad del Norte (Colombia), and Justus Liebig University Giessen (Germany), CAPAZ is launching an online  conference series of the I International Seminar, “History and memory of violence and conflicts in Latin America” to address the region’s history of violence and conflict.

The online conferences will take place from August 11 to November 17, 2020.

The inaugural conference will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. (Colombia/Mexico), 6:00 p.m. (Germany). It will be delivered by Mauricio Archila, a Colombian researcher from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, who will review the history of the protests that took place in Colombia between 1975 and 2019.

Conference itinerary and international speakers

The virtual conferences will analyse violence and conflicts, as well as memory processes from a Latin American perspective. While in many cases, in the current contexts of some countries, violence persists and continues to have an influence – almost like a colonial legacy – today, the region’s violent past in addressed via a dynamic and controversial approach.

The series includes presentations by Latin American and European researchers, who will present their current investigations on the subject, from different perspectives and complexities:
