NEXT CAPAZ EVENT: A DIALOGUE ON THE ARMED CONFLICT BETWEEN CINEMA AND PHOTOGRAPHY

Cinema and photography are different languages, but they can meet and dialogue. In Colombia, both languages have been talking on the armed conflict and peace. People working in film and photography not only use them to present a work, but also to attest to a memory, a wish, or others’ voices.

The next event of CAPAZ Spotlight of Peace Calendar brings together two artists with different visions of the Colombian armed conflict, from an audiovisual and a photographic perspective: the young documentary filmmaker Ana Milena del Castillo and the renowned photographer and artist Erika Diettes. The conversation will be led by Dr. Wolfgang Fuhrmann, German professor and researcher on Film History and Theory.

The discussion “Estéticas del conflicto: visiones de dolor y esperanza” (Conflict aesthetics: visions of pain and hope) will take place on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at CAPAZ in the Claustro de San Agustín in Bogotá, Colombia (Cra. 8 No. 7-21). Admission is free until full capacity is reached, and prior registration is not required.

A look at the armed conflict of the young filmmaker Ana Milena del Castillo

Ana Milena del Castillo was born in Tumaco, in the department of Nariño, Colombia. She is almost 30 years old and the daughter of a teacher and a housewife. She is the youngest of five sisters and brothers, including chemists, biologists and mathematicians. Ana Milena studied journalism and found in filmmaking and arts her pa

Her interest in social, cultural and artistic issues comes from her experience with the violence by armed groups in the Colombian Pacific. Ana Milena’s audiovisual work deals with these topics which are close to her own biography.

The cinematographic view of the Colombian armed conflict -also combined with dance and other performing arts- of this young documentary filmmaker deserves to be seen, beyond its political content or the exercise of looking back at the past.

The duel of the victims seen with the lens of Erika Diettes

Erika Diettes has used her photographic lens to bring the pain of the victims of Colombia’s armed conflict to different countries. The work of the young visual artist born in Cali, Colombia is a long and recognized journey. Diettes’ proposal could well refer to photography as art, also to the pain represented through art.
