The first DAAD regional office newsletter highlights CAPAZ activities

In January of this year, the German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD (Deutsches Akademisches Austauschdienst) opened a new regional office in Bogotá to strengthen cooperation networks between Germany and other countries in the region. CAPAZ was a protagonist in DAAD’s first newsletter, which features an interview with our academic director Prof. Dr. Stefan Peters, who answered questions about his work as a professor at JLU Giessen, talked about this year’s protests in Colombia, and mentioned the challenge of consolidating spaces for discussion and exchange of knowledge between academia and the most vulnerable communities in Colombia.

“If we want to find solutions, we have to dialogue, so that we can understand what the demands are. Democracy is a peaceful form of conflict resolution and these spaces can allow us to make the problem visible and find solutions to protect human rights” said Prof. Peters.

Further on, the publication highlighted the statement made by CAPAZ, asking the National Government for guarantees for peaceful protest and respect for the human rights of the demonstrators in the National Strike. The communiqué also called for peaceful conflict resolution, respecting and defending life above any particular interest. The communiqué was signed by more than 100 researchers from Colombia and Germany who belong to CAPAZ partner universities.

Finally, the bulletin highlighted the importance of the Netcapaz research platform: “It is supported by a curatorship of specialized information on peace and supports researchers in these areas, providing them with databases, tools for dissemination, and funding options for research on peace issues”.

Netcapaz offers a search engine that includes nine specific categories and a series of keywords that help in the search for experts in the area of peace and conflict studies. Netcapaz makes it possible to identify the work of subscribers, making the dissemination of publications, events and research projects direct and effective.
