The Evangelische Akademie Hofgeismar in Germany will host the international congress on the climate crisis in Latin America from January 24 to 26, 2020 (title in German: Krisen-Klima: Umweltkonflikte aus lateinamerikanischer Perspektive im Gespräch mit Kirchen, Wissenschaft, Politik und Zivilgesellschaft).

The conference participants will discuss the global aspects of the various current environmental crises, from a perspective focusing on Latin America. Specifically, one of the themes of the meeting will be about the consumer dynamics in relations between Latin America and Europe. Another focus of the event is to formulate concrete solutions and creative responses to the ecological crisis in Latin America and globally.

The congress will bring together representatives, experts and practitioners from universities and institutions in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Latin America. The CAPAZ Academic Director and professor at Justus Liebig University Giessen, Prof. Dr. Stefan Peters, has been invited on January 25, 2020 to participate as a panellist in the discussion on neo-extractivism and the green economy. Later the same day, he will moderate the discussion on the effects and possible socio-political solutions to climate change.
