CAPAZ science collaborator, Marcela Pardo, and CAPAZ academic director, Stefan Peters edited the book “Political Education: Debates of a history to be built”, which we recently published in partnership with the Centre for Research and Popular Education/Program for Peace (Cinep/PPP). In the preface, Professor Peters mentions that the text is intended “to shed light on the importance of political education based on the findings of a critical academia committed to democracy and peace and to develop practical recommendations for the design of political education in Colombia”.

Throughout its 14 chapters written by researchers from diverse areas such as “education and pedagogy, sociology of education, history of education, feminist studies, cultural studies, and educational practices and experiences”, the text offers a reflection that shows “the importance of creating a social and diverse debate on the consolidation of political education in schools as well as in society in general. One that allows us to deepen democratic openings and  consolidate peace”.

The thematic axes of the book revolve around four themes:

The first holds a sharp dialogue between the tradition of political-historical education -or civic education- in Germany and the milestones of a political education in Colombia.

The second discussion deals with the trajectories and challenges of education in relation to the Havana peace agreement, which will increase its importance even in view of the Total Peace project.

The third one focuses on understanding the historical wound of school in Colombia and the ways in which it has resisted these onslaughts.

The last covers other approaches, which are no less important, such as the influence of soap operas, political education in the deaf population in Colombia, and the role of universities.
